In testimony before the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell and Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lt. Gen. Michael Maples publicly raised the issue of the threat of cyberwarfare for the first time in the 2008 Annual Threat Assessment of the Intelligence Community.
The manner in which the subject was broached is noteworthy. The reference to our cyber threat occured very early on in the testimony. We don't think that placement was accidential. It seemed that one of the objectives was to gain congressional support.
It would seem that the cyber threat can not be overstated because the U.S.A. Is one of the most wired and connected nations in the world. It is a necessity that much work be done to insure that the United States does the best job possible to secure its interests in cyberspace.
