Today is Circus Day. Many people may not now that May 19 is an official holiday Circus Day and it is the celebration of the day in 1884 that Ringling Brother’s Circus was founded by five of the seven Ringling Brothers: Albert, August, Otto, Alfred, Charles, John and Henry. In 1907 it acquired the Barnum & Bailey Circus, merging them in 1919 to become the Greatest Show on Earth. The circus travels from city to city and entertains with animals, clowns and other entertainers. It is a three ring circus and entertains in some of the largest arenas in the world.
Circus Day is a day celebrated by circus lovers, little guys who pop out of tiny cars, and kids of all ages. How do people celebrate Circus Day ? They make circus crafts, indulge in circus foods like funnel cake and cotton candy, and even paint their faces to look like circus clowns.Speaking of clowns, the Ringing Brother’s circus has perhaps the most famous clowns in the world. Ringling trained around 1,400 clowns in the "Ringling style" from 1968 to 1997 at its' Clown College.
Famous clowns include Bozo the Clown, who has to be at or near the top of any American list, simply because he wasn't one clown but many actors taking on the Bozo persona in order for him to be a 'local' clown.
However, not everyone loves clowns. There's even a term for this:
Coulrophobia, the abnormal, irrational fear of clowns. The term is of recent origin, probably dating from the 1980s, which was about the time when actor Tim Curry first slathered on greasepaint and portrayed Pennywise the Clown in the film adaptation of the 1986 horror novel "It" which was written by Stephen King.
On the subject of Ronald McDonald, more than 550 health professionals and organizations pressured U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to take legal action against Ronald McDonald last week, claiming that he has poisoned American children for decades. Holder immediately signed a letter to McDonald’s Corp. asking the maker of Happy Meals to stop marketing junk food to kids. First Lady Michelle Obama a mother herself signed the letter as well.
The letter, which ran as full-page ads in six metropolitan newspapers around the country on Wednesday, acknowledged that “the contributors to today’s obesity epidemic are manifold and a broad societal response is required. But marketing can no longer be ignored as a significant part of this massive problem. Ronald McDonald must die.”
The letter, however, was not enough. Health professionals and activists began demanding that Ronald McDonald be arrested, put on trial and executed. Eric Holder agreed and immediately issued an arrest warrant. Ronald McDonald was arrested in Peoria, Illinois.
Eric Holder held a swift trial for Ronald McDonald in front of the Ninth Circuit of Appeals.
Ronald McDonald was found guilty of “assaulting” American children since 1964. McDonald is charged with mass murder. McDonald will be hung outside the White House. Michelle Obama will be there to raise awareness for Obesity.Ronald McDonald will then be buried in an oversized Big Mac box.
