A little study reveals that the
United States has a long way to go in order to take advantage of all that high-speed Internet has to offer.
The
United States has slipped from 12th down to 15th in per-capita
broadband penetration measured against 30 other Organizations for Economic Cooperation and Development Nations.
Middle of the pack is not real great for a country like the
U.S.A.
Back in 2001 we did not rank 15th…. we ranked 4th.
This should concern us as the world flattens and gets more competitive.
The
USA needs to make it easier to get broadband services if we don’t want to continually lag and slip farther behind in this ever flattening world.
The economic benefits of broadband are huge.
The
United States would be wise to ‘get with it’ and set ambitious goals even to the point of fostering meaningful and results oriented competition.
We need to survey our underserved rural areas and figure out what to do about that.
Back in the 1930’s when the rural areas were depending on 32 volt wind power because they did not have 115 volts…..we took action and got the job done with the REA’s in the case of that other utility called electricity.
