The
U.S. continues to cling to the medal lead with a total of 26 at the Winter Games in
Vancouver. Americans added a silver medal on Tuesday and now have seven gold, nine silver and 10 bronze medals.
Germany comes in second with 23, while
Norway is third overall with 17.
Blues teammates David Backes and Erik Johnson and the rest of Team
USA will play a quarterfinal contest Wednesday against
Switzerland in the Olympic hockey tournament in
Vancouver. The
U.S. finished 3-and-0 in group play, capped by Sunday's 5-3 upset of host nation
Canada. That earned the Americans a bye into today's quarters.
Switzerland beat
Belarus 3-2 in a shootout Tuesday to advance. The
U.S. beat the Swiss 3-1 during round-robin play.
The Redbirds held their first full-squad workout Tuesday in
Florida. Manager Tony La Russa began the proceedings with a team meeting, but invited the players to step up and do most of the talking. Missing the first full-squad workout was the 120 million dollar man .. outfielder Matt Holliday, who is sick.
The
Saint Louis men's basketball team is back at Chaifetz Arena Wednesday night to entertain the Xavier Musketeers. The Bills beat UMass on the road Sunday 69-56 to extend their winning streak to six games. SLU is 18-and-8 overall and 9-and-3 in the Atlantic 10. The Billikins will also host Duquesne and
Temple before ending the regular season at
Dayton.
"Pardon The Interruption" co-host Tony Kornheiser has been suspended by ESPN for two weeks for criticizing the wardrobe of morning "SportsCenter" co-anchor Hannah Storm on his radio show last week. Kornheiser criticizing how someone else looks is ludicrous, because he looks like a bum in a cheap suit on the air. ESPN called his marks inappropriate and Kornheiser apologized on the radio on Friday.
Holding the top pick in the April draft after a dismal 1-and-15 season, the Rams begin evaluating potential talent with the start of the NFL Combine in
Indianapolis. The six-day session will put prospective players through rigorous physical drills to help NFL scouts and team personnel form opinions about which might best help them in the draft. The NFL Draft takes place April 22nd through the 24th.
Missouri
returns to the hardwood tonight at home against
Colorado. The Tigers have won two straight and four of their last five games to improve to 20-and-7 overall and 8-and-4 in the Big 12. The Buffaloes are 12-and-14 and 3-and-9. Mizzou won 84-66 in
