The heart of the Cardinals batting order arrived at Spring Training camp in Jupiter,
Florida on Sunday. First baseman Albert Pujols and outfielder Matt Holliday entered the Roger Dean Stadium Complex at the same time. Fresh off his third National League MVP Award, Pujols had surgery in October to remove bone spurs and bone chips in his right elbow. He hopes the procedure will allow him to avoid the need for ligament replacement surgery down the line. Pujols, who still has a high-grade tear in the ligament, spent part of his first day in camp consulting with new hitting coach Mark McGwire. Holliday is back after signing a seven-year, $120-million free-agent contract with the Redbirds in the off-season.
