The Cardinals could not figure out the Mets' R.A. Dickey, as the knuckleballer shut down the Redbirds for eight-and-a-third scoreless innings  as New York shut out St. Louis 4-0 in a matinee today at Citi Field.  Dickey allowed four hits, fanned two and walked two as the Mets took two-of-three in the set.  Blake Hawksworth took the loss of the Cards.  He allowed four runs on seven hits over six frames.  Jon Jay had a double and walked as the Redbirds lost for the fifth time in their last seven games.  The Cards return home tomorrow to host the Pirates.  Chris Carpenter gets the start in the opener of the three-game series. Pregame at 6:32 on KWRE

The Rams hit the field for the first time since opening training camp yesterday.  Quarterbacks, Rookies and selected veterans are in camp, while the rest of the team is supposed to arrive tomorrow. One person not at Russell Training Center yet is rookie quarterback Sam Bradford. The Oklahoma product and top overall selection in last year's draft remains unsigned. Head coach Steve Spagnuolo said he would have liked Bradford in camp today, but he understands the signing process. The first full-squad practice will take place Saturday.

The owners of Gateway International Speedway say they won't look for sanctioning to hold races next year. Dover Motorsports Inc.'s president and CEO Denis McGlynn said the company could look to sell the track. Gateway hosted the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 two weeks ago on the Nationwide Series, and will host the Gateway 250 on October 23rd. It was also the site of the CampingWorld.com 200 of the Camping World Truck Series on July 17th. Dover vice president and general manager Terry Harmeson said they were committed to finishing out the season with the October race. That will be Danica Patrick's first race at the track.

The Blues traded winger D.J. King to the Washington Capitals yesterday in exchange for minor-league prospect Stefan Della Rovere. The "Post-Dispatch" reports the Blues re-signed King to a two-year, $1.275-million deal as a precursor to the transaction. The 26-year-old King had 33 penalty minutes in 12 games for the Blues last season.  He has nine points and 185 penalty minutes in 101 NHL games since being drafted by St. Louis in 2002. The 20-year-old Della Rovere was captain of the Barrie Colts of the OHL last season, helping lead them to the Eastern Conference Championship before losing to Windsor in the OHL Championship. After the OHL playoffs, he played for the 2010 Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears of the AHL.
