Former Cardinals manager Whitey Herzog will reach the pinnacle of baseball Sunday when he's inducted into the Hall of Fame in
Cooperstown,
New York. Herzog will join one-time Cubs outfielder Andre Dawson and umpire Doug Harvey in the Class of 2010. Herzog and Harvey were selected by the Veterans Committee. Herzog spent 11 of his 18 years as a manager with the Redbirds, and led them to three National League pennants and the 1982 World Series title. He had a 822-and-728 record while with
St. Louis and had 1,281 wins overall. He also managed the Royals, Angels and Rangers.
P.J. Walters is back with the Cardinals. The "Post-Dispatch" says Walters was recalled as bullpen insurance. He was up with the Cards earlier in the season and started two of his four appearances. He went 1-and-0 with a 7.94 ERA in his previous stint with the team this year, and allowed 15 earned runs over 17 innings pitched. To make room for Walters, the team send outfielder Allen Craig down to
Memphis. He had gone 4-for-17 since he joined the Cards to open the second half of the season. The "Post-Dispatch" says right fielder Ryan Ludwick will likely have to wait until Sunday to be activated off the disabled list
The Rams might still be looking at
Missouri wide receiver Danario Alexander. The "Post Dispatch" reports the Rams are expected to bring Alexander in for a visit and physical after his agent said Alexander was cleared medically this week to work out for NFL teams. He had surgery on his left knee in February. Alexander had 113 receptions for 1,781 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Tigers last season. It was a breakout year after three left-knee surgeries, but he re-injured the knee during a Senior Bowl practice in late January. The Rams are still waiting to see his medical reports.
Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols will be on the "Late Show with David Letterman." The Cardinals will be in town for a three-game series against the Mets that begins on Tuesday. Pujols is slated to do the usual sit-down interview as well as give a batting demonstration outside the show's studio in
Manhattan.
Randy Wells allowed just five hits and fanned seven as he fired seven scoreless innings to lead the Cubs to a 5-0 win over the rival Cardinals at Wrigley Field. The Cubs opened the three-game series with their fifth win in their last eight games. The Cardinals have now been shut out twice on the heels of an eight-game winning streak, and it’s the first time in Tony LaRussa’s career he’s suffered back to back shutouts. The Redbirds hope to get even this morning behind Blake Hawksworth and Kaspar Broadcasting Sports will have the pregame at 11:22 on KWRE
