The Cardinals are back in action tonight as they host the Brewers at Busch Stadium.  Jaime Garcia gets the nod for the Redbirds against Milwaukee's Dave Bush.  Garcia is 10-and-5 on the season and his 2.71 ERA is seventh-best in the National League.  The lefty is 2-and-0 with a 1.42 ERA over three starts against the Brew Crew.  Meantime, Bush is 5-and-10 with a 4.78 earned run average. The Cards had yesterday off after losing two-of-three against the Cubs at home this weekend. You can catch all the action tonight, starting with the pregame show at 6:30 on AM 730 KWRE

The St. Louis Cardinals and third baseman Zack Cox, the 25th overall pick in June's draft, came to terms on a contract just prior to a midnight deadline Monday. Cox led the University of Arkansas with a .429 batting average with nine home runs and 48 RBI in 59 games this season. The sophomore was the starting third baseman at Arkansas in both of his seasons. The Cardinals also announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Jordan Swagerty, a second-round pick.

The Cincinnati Reds are still the top team in the NL Central with a one-game lead over the Cardinals.  Both teams had yesterday off, allowing Cincy to stay in the top spot in the division. The Reds swept the Marlins over the weekend, while the Cards dropped two-of-three to the Cubs.  But the Cards start a two-game set against the Brewers tonight, while the Reds open a three-game series against the Diamondbacks in ArizonaMilwaukee is third in the division, 12-and-a-half games behind Cincinnati Arizona is 47-and-72 and has the second-worst record in the National League.

Miguel Tejada went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI as the Padres walloped the Chicago Cubs 9-5 in the first of a four-game series in Chicago on Monday evening.  Chris Denorfia added two hits, two runs scored and two RBI for the Padres, who have won seven of their last eight games.  Kevin Correia tossed six shutout innings to improve to 10-and-7. Blake DeWitt belted a two-run homer for the Cubs, who have dropped four-of-six. Tom Gorzelanny allowed five runs over six-and-a-third innings to fall to 6-and-7. Randy Wells will be on the mound when the series continues tonight. The Padres will counter with Jon Garland.  First-pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Rookie tackle Roger Saffold didn't make it through practice yesterday after suffering a back injury. Head coach Steve Spagnuolo said somebody fell into Saffold during a drill. There's no word yet on how bad the injury is. The Rams chose the Indiana product with the 33rd overall pick in the second round of this year's draft.

Despite what you’ve heard, veteran running back Brian Westbrook is not coming to St. Louis as a member of the Rams. Instead, he signed a one-year contract with the NFC West-rival San Francisco 49ers yesterday. Reports surfaced over the weekend suggesting the 30-year-old was thinking of signing with the Rams. Westbrook was let go by the Eagles in March after spending eight seasons with the team. He is the all-time Eagles leader with 9,785 yards from scrimmage. Westbrook is coming off an injury-plagued season that saw him post 274 yards rushing with 181 receiving yards and just two touchdowns.
