Pablo Sandoval and Aubrey Huff each homered, and Madison Bumgarner was steady over seven-plus innings to guide the Giants past the Cardinals, 6-3, in the first of three at Busch Stadium. Buster Posey had a pair of hits, a run and an RBI for San Francisco, which won its second straight.  Brian Wilson pitched the ninth for his 35th save. Jake Westbrook fell to 1-and-1 after giving up three runs on seven hits in six innings of work. Albert Pujols crushed his 32nd homer of the year as part of a 2-for-4 night at the plate, but saw the Cards lose their fifth straight.

A pair of big-name rookie quarterbacks will be on opposite sides of today's Rams game against the Browns in Cleveland. On the Rams side there's Sam Bradford, who was the top overall pick by St. Louis in this year's draft. The Oklahoma product completed 6-of-13 passes for 57 yards and was sacked four times in last week's 28-7 loss to the Vikings. Meantime, the Browns have Colt McCoy in their fold. The Texas product was looked at by the Rams prior to the draft, before the team chose Bradford.  Instead, McCoy fell to the third round of the draft, where Cleveland picked him with the 85th overall selection. McCoy went 5-for-10 passing for 25 yards and two interceptions in a 27-24 win over the Packers last week.

Missouri junior forward Laurence Bowers will throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the Cardinals game against the Reds on September 3rd at Busch Stadium. The six-foot-seven right-hander was courted by schools both as a pitcher and for his basketball prowess. He ended up getting a scholarship to join the Tigers to play hoops. Illinois basketball coach Bruce Weber will also be on hand for the festivities.  The first pitch ceremony will come the day before the Arch Rivalry Game between Mizzou and Illinois at the Edward Jones Dome.
