The Cardinals won a remarkable World Series Friday night before 47,399 fans plus a captivated radio and television audience, beating the Texas Rangers 6-2 in Game 7 of the fall classic, in baseball's first seventh game since the Angels beat the Giants in 2002. The Redbirds won on the strenthof another key hit by hometown hero and series MVP David Freese, and six gutsy innings of work from Chris Carpenter. David Freese was the star of the series, with a tying triple in the ninth and a winning home run in the 11th. His two RBIs in the clincher gave him a postseason-record of 21. Friday night's victory marks the ninth straight time a home team has won a seventh game in a World Series, and gave La Russa his third World Series victory. The Cardinals play the first game of their 2012 season on April 4th.
