If you turned to the public-opinion polls as true barometers on how the McCain and Obama presidential campaigns are faring, you were likely disappointed.  Those polls are featuring a variety of results that are as muddy as the Missouri River.

For example, if one believes the daily Gallup Poll without reservations, Democratic nominee Barack Obama would appear to be heading toward a landslide victory November 4th over his GOP opponent John McCain.  The Gallup Poll indicates an 11-point lead for Obama, 52-41%.

But, the Zogby Poll indicates that the presidential race is far closer, as it has Obama ahead of McCain by just over 3 1/2 points, 47.8-44.2%.   The Zogby Poll also says that Obama has a smaller projected lead in the Electoral College vote, compared to the CBS News projections.   Zogby has Obama leading 234-179, with 125 votes at stake from nine states that are too close to call.

Just another reason why we should read and watch all we can about both candidates leading up to November 4th…because relying on the polls to sway your vote could cause daily headaches and undue stress.
