The Warren County R-3 School Board has approved a restructuring plan that will make the Daniel Boone, Rebecca Boone and Warrior Ridge elementary schools kindergarten through fifth-grade schools beginning with the next school year.

The board approved the restructuring plan at the recommendation of a 36-member committee which has been meeting since late last year to look at ways to deal with restructuring issues. The plan will impact about 1,600 elementary level students in the district. Implementing the changes will cost the district approximately $250,000, which will come out of the district’s reserve funds.   But, choosing to leave the current structure in place, would have cost the district $585,000 each year in Title I money because it would not have met state requirements.

The district began looking at restructuring after the schools in question scored below proficiency requirements set forth by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for communication arts and math.   The district had scores of 42 percent for communication arts and 47-point-8 for math, when the state standards are 83-point-7 and 81-point-7 percent, respectively.
