Authorities have released the identity of a woman whose body was found in a creek on Monday in Gasconade County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating the death of the woman.  The patrol says two people walking near the creek along Highway 28 in Owensville found the body at about 3:45 p.m. Monday. Police have identified the body as that of 29 year old Kristin M. Hughes of Hermann. The creek is located between a McDonald's restaurant and a Wal-Mart store.

An autopsy conducted by the Boone/Callaway County Medical Examiner in Columbia found that Hughes injuries were consistent with a fall into the creek resulting in a drowning. The highway patrol, however, is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.
