A teenager from Florissant drowned Sunday afternoon in the Meramec River at the river's 94 mile marker near Stanton, Missouri in Franklin County. According to the Missouri State Water Patrol, 17-year-old Joseph Barnes was trying to swim for a rope swing when he called for help, went under and didn't resurface at just past 3 p.m. Sunday on the Meramec. His body was recovered about an hour later by the Sullivan Fire Department in about seven feet of water. Barnes was not a swimmer and was not wearing a life jacket.
