Lake Saint Louis is home to two lakes: the little lake, which is actually named Lake Saint Louise, and the 550-acre Big Lake, which is known as Lake Saint Louis. Police report that a 17-year-old man from Florissant drowned in the big lake sometime after midnight Sunday night. Lake Saint Louis Police Chief Mike Force says the teen, whose identity is being withheld until relatives can be notified, was swimming with friends off a boat when he went under and failed to resurface. Force says they search for their friend and called to report him missing at 12:52 a.m. Monday.

Dragging efforts and sonar located the body in about 10 feet of water, and was pulled from the lake at just past 4 a.m. Monday. Chief Force couldn’t say if the young man was a good or a bad swimmer, and police are investigating if alcohol was a factor in the death. Routine tests by the medical examiner's office will help determine that. Authorities from the Lake Saint Louis Police Department, Lake Saint Louis Fire Protection District, St. Charles County and Missouri Water Patrol helped with the search.
