A St. Peters man has died from a fire in his home.

58-year-old John Sherwood died in the fire, at his home located on the first block of Lippizan Road .

According to officials with Central County Fire & Rescue, the fire began around 2 p.m. in the basement.   Sherwood usually picked up his wife from work every day, and she became worried when he didn’t show up.   A co-worker brought her home, and she discovered dense smoke inside.   Sherwood was discovered in the basement, under some debris.   He was taken to Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital , but he passed away while receiving treatment.

Sherwood worked out of his home as a commercial lighting designer, according to fire officials.   The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
