When President Obama appears at
St. Charles
High School this afternoon, he’s expected to give it to the insurance industry with both barrels. The president will also open fire at an out-of-touch Congress that ignores the needs of Americans. According to the White House, President Obama will also outline a new initiative to pay private auditors to root out waste and fraud in Medicare and Medicaid.
Why did President Obama choose
St Charles
High School for this visit? White House spokesman Matthew Lehrich says the president "believes it's important to get out of
Washington, to places like
St. Charles, where families are worrying about how to keep up with health insurance premiums." Not only that, the President will be in the area to appear at a fundraiser tonight for Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee at the Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis.
Republicans will use the President’s visit to their own advantage. Representative Todd Akin of Town and Country scheduled a video town hall meeting at the
St. Charles
Convention Center at 10 a.m., an event at which GOP concerns will be raised. Senator Kit Bond and the man who will run for Bond’s soon-to-be-vacant seat, Representative Roy Blunt, held a news conference in
Washington Wednesday morning. Bond suggests that he would be unlikely to support the Democratic-drawn proposals no matter how they got altered in coming days, "It's like putting a couple extra rear-view mirrors on a car headed over a cliff."
