An Illinois man has been charged with “tagging” a large number of buildings and properties in downtown St. Charles.

28 year old Andrew J. Mitts of Belleville, has been charged with felony first-degree property damage.  A judge has set his bail at $7,500 cash-only.

Police say Mitts left his "SUR5L" tag in the form of graffiti on more than 40 buildings and properties near Main Street in St. Charles between November 2 and November 5. Mitts told authorities that the tag commemorated a friend who had recently died.
