Six Flags Wants Days Inn To Change Their Billing

It used to be a sweet deal for all concerned. Six Flags drew the crowds, and the nearby Days Inn would rent them a place to stay in rustic Eureka. After all, there wasn’t much nearby in the way of hotels. But this symbiotic relationship is apparently off, as the Franklin County theme park has sued the motel for calling themselves “Days Inn Eureka Six Flags.”  This situation came to a head when TripAdvisor, a travel website, published its list of the Top 10 Dirtiest Hotels two weeks ago, and Days Inn came in as number two on the list of flophouses that travelers should avoid like the plague. The number two ranking must have caught someone’s eye at Six Flags, and the amusement park was not amused.

When someone in charge at Six Flags caught wind of this, the theme park sent the motel a cease and desist letter demanding they stop using the Six Flags name in any form by January 27th. But since the letter was sent, the lawsuit claims Gateway Hotels was still using the Six Flags trademark on the Days Inn website as late as this last Monday. Hotel manager S.T. Shah told the St Louis Post Dispatch that they only used the Six Flags name as a way to identify its location, not to imply it was affiliated with the theme park. As for running a filthy hovel, Shah said, "It's totally something which we disagree with.”
