Parks Department Develops Bird List For Nature Lovers

The St.Charles County Parks Department has developed havens for songbirds, waterfowl, raptors, and other feathered fliers within their eight parks. With thick wooded areas, prairies, wetlands, and riverside, these habitats present opportunities to view a number of different birds in each of the eight St.Charles County Parks. A new feature on the department’s website will help birders and nature lovers track migratory and native birds spotted throughout the year.The St. Charles County Parks Bird List is updated by park staff and visitors, and shows notes the species’ spotted and where they can be found.  The online list will be updated periodically to reflect new creatures spotted.

On February 13, the department will host its annual Eagle Viewing Passport Walk at Hideaway Harbor Park, which begins at 9 a.m. In addition, a new program entitled Birdwatching Tours is planned at Indian Camp Creek Park, Klondike Park and Quail Ridge Park   Later in the year, Passport to St. Charles County Parks Walks are scheduled at Bangert Memorial Wildlife Area, Matson Hill Park and Quail Ridge Park
