The assistant city administrator for the city of
O’Fallon has been reassigned as the city auditor.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 62 year old Greg Smothers, who has served as assistant city administrator since late 2005, was reassigned in what officials say is an effort to more closely analyze sources of revenue. Smothers earns $115,000 per year and he could take a pay cut as the city evaluates his salary as well as those of two other positions. The city also rescinded Smothers' city vehicle. Smothers had actually served as city auditor before being appointed assistant city administrator in November 2005.
The city has not had a staff auditor since that time. City Administrator Keith Riesberg made the decision to move Smothers back to the auditor’s post.
The city has also reassigned Steve Bender from his position as city engineer to managing director of public works. And they also shifted duties for Jack Strick, managing director of community development. Strick now oversees planning and building code enforcement.
A city spokesman said salaries for Bender and Strick are also being re-evaluated.
