The whole idea of renaming Highway K died at an O’Fallon City Council workshop Thursday night. Mayor Bill Hennessy says the council reached a consensus Thursday night not to pursue the name change. Council members had talked about changing the name to " Krekel Boulevard" in honor of one of O'Fallon's founding families

Highway K is one of St Charles County’s busiest roads between Interstate 70 and Interstate 64 near the August A. Busch Wildlife Conservation Area, and Councilman John Haman Jr., who supported the idea, still thinks a new name would set the road apart from other Highway K's throughout the state.

One reason for raising the idea at a recent meeting had to do with the Missouri Department of Transportation planning to replace highway signs in the next year. City Engineer Steve Bender said the change wouldn't cost taxpayers if the change were made before the state replaces the signs.
