Police captured 27 year old murder suspect Marcus "Butterhead" Powell Thursday morning, ending a massive manhunt for the accused killer of a boy in
Illinois. Since Tuesday, Powell had been wanted for questioning by the Major Case Squad in the death of 12 year old Delarrian Davis, who was gunned down as he did his homework on Tuesday by a spray of bullets fired into his home in
Madison.
Police found Powell hiding inside a dark and cluttered shed at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday hiding at the Runny Meade Estates mobile home park after a six-hour search that had kept residents on edge, closed schools and tied up traffic.
Last year, Powell was charged in St. Clair County with shooting and wounding the boy's mother, Sophia Leonard, and another woman, and was charged with two counts of attempted murder. He was released from jail after he posted $15,000 cash bail in that case. Powell has been charged in
Madison
County with first-degree murder in Delarrian's death and one count of attempted murder. He is being held without bail as of Thursday at the St. Charles County Jail, pending extradition to
Illinois.
