A Rolla man received a sentence of 18 months in prison and was ordered to pay restitution to 58 businesses and institutions for passing counterfeit cash. 39 year old   Edward Zimbalist Griffin, pleaded guilty to the charges in July. He admitted using the phony money at banks and businesses from St. Louis to Warrenton to Columbia to Jefferson City to Rolla.

Investigators said a clerk at a JC Penny store in Rolla suspected something when Griffin bought a ring at her counter in May. The clerk called store security. Griffin then tried to return the ring at a Jefferson City store and was arrested. Senior U.S. District Judge Donald Stohr sentenced Griffin to 18 months in prison and ordered him to pay $7,980 restitution
