A St Charles County firm evidently takes care of their workers in these tough times. MEMC Electronic Materials of St Peters, a manufacturer of wafers and products for the semiconductor and solar industries, announced on Thursday that Chief Executive Ahmad Chatila has officially turned down a substantial bonus for 2009, to show solidarity for laid off workers. Instead, the half-million dollar bonus money will go to a retraining program for workers who were laid off at the company’s plants in O’Fallon and Sherman Texas.  Those workers will also get severance pay, training and benefits when their plants close in 2010 and 2011.
