O'Fallon Police have captured a person of interest in the murder of a 12-year-old boy in Madison, Illinois on Monday.
A manhunt began early Thursday morning in Wentzville, when 27-year-old Marcus Powell was spotted. Powell tried to escape in a car, but he crashed the vehicle along eastbound I-70 in O'Fallon. He then got away from the police pursuit on foot, prompting police to set up a dragnet in an area bounded by Bryan Road, Veterans Memorial Parkway, Mexico Road, and Route K. Officers stopped vehicles as they headed into that dragnet, and backseats and trunks of cars were searched for any sign of Powell.
Also, the following schools were locked down and closed to the public, while the manhunt continued: Zumwalt West High School, West Middle School, Dardenne Elementary, First Baptist Christian Academy, Holy Cross Lutheran Pre-School of O'Fallon, Rock Creek Elementary, and the morning classes at United Services Pre-School West.
Powell is wanted for questioning in the shooting death of 12-year-old Delarrian Davis on Monday. A woman accompanying Davis was also shot and wounded during the incident.
