A California man was arrested in Wentzville earlier this week in connection with the suspected kidnapping of a South Carolina teenager.

31 year old Brian Bennett, of San Leandro, California, was arrested Wednesday at a Wentzville convenience store with 17-year-old Latasha Hilliard, who was reported missing Monday by authorities in South Carolina.

Police believe Bennett and Hilliard may have met online and said detectives tracked Bennett in Wentzville after Hilliard called her mother using his cell phone.

Bennett was being held in the St. Charles County jail while he awaits extradition to Edgefield County, near Augusta, South Carolina, where he faces a kidnapping charge.
