The St. Charles County Council has voted to outlaw the sale of "fake pot" products in the county.
The Council voted 7 to nothing Monday night to make it a misdemeanor to possess or sell any of several herb mixtures, such as K2, that are laced with chemicals that mimic the effects of marijuana. The Missouri Legislature is also considering a statewide ban on the sale of the products.
St. Charles
county's chief attorney said letters announcing the new ban would be hand-delivered Tuesday to a handful of retail outlets that are known to sell the herbal products. If the retailer refuses to remove the items from the shelves, the county will seek a court order to halt the sales.
The law to ban the sale of the “fake pot” was sponsored by County Councilman Joe Brazil of
Defiance at the request of Sheriff Tom Neer.
Brazil said he also was concerned about reports of increased usage of the product by high school students in the area.
