The St. Charles City Council has voted to give the Foundry Art Centre up to $30,000 to help make ends meet this year.

The council approved the measure on a 9 to 1 vote.   The bill will give the non-profit facility up to $5,000 a month to cover utility bills from July through the end of the year.

Earlier this year, Dick Sacks, the head of the foundry board told the council that $100,000 was needed from public and private sources to plug a budget gap. Last month, Sacks, a business consultant, said he was forced out as president by some other board members. One of them, former Mayor Grace Nichols, tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that it was Sacks' decision to step down.
