A bronze plaque marking the final resting place of pioneer Daniel Boone and his wife, Rebecca, was reportedly stolen from the family's gravesite, located just outside of Marthasville, in southern Warren County.

Authorities say the plaque was apparently stolen between June 21 and June 23.

The Daughters of the American Revolution had the plaque installed into a granite rock to mark the gravesite of Boone and his wife in 1913. Rebecca Boone died in 1813 and was buried in the Bryan family cemetery by her husband. Daniel was buried in 1820 at the feet of his wife, because the grave next to Rebecca was already occupied.
