St. Charles County authorities have arrested three Westplex men for trying to steal catalytic converters from vehicles.

Prosecutors have charged 20 year old Charles Wallace of Warrenton and 18 year old Jeremy Caldwell of St. Peters with attempted theft. A third suspect, 21 year old, Seth Hanlon of O'Fallon, has been charged in an earlier theft from June.

The arrests occurred after an officer stopped Wallace and Caldwell when he spotted them leaving a parking lot at about 12:50 a.m. Thursday. The officer searched their vehicle and found copper pipe and a saw. Officers then searched the area and saw that copper piping had been stolen from a construction site. Police also found pipe cutters and blades in the parking lot of an auto dealership nearby. Police said the investigation revealed a third suspect, Hanlon, accused of

St. Peters in June.

Police say that all three men are suspects in several other cases in St. Charles and St. Louis counties.
