National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell will meet with former New England Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh on May 13th in New York, to discuss what has become known as the "Spygate" scandal.
Goodell and NFL officials plan to discuss the Pats' alleged spying practices with Walsh that may include the taping of the Rams' workout the day before Super Bowl 36. Walsh is ordered to return any materials he may have from his time with the club and will not be sued by the Patriots or the league in exchange for his cooperation.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has strongly denied any activity that remotely resembles a taping of the Rams' final workout before Super Bowl 36. However, several Rams players on that NFC Championship team believe that the Patriots did gain an unfair advantage somehow during a key goal-line sequence deep in Patriots territory during that Super Bowl. The Patriots stuffed the Rams' offense on plays in which the Rams say they never ran before that game...except in the final walkthrough practice the day before.
Belichick has already been fined $500,000 by the NFL for taping the New York Jets coaching staff during their early-season game this past year. Patriots owner Robert Kraft was also fined $250,000 and the team lost its first-round draft choice in the upcoming NFL Draft as additional penalties. If the "Spygate" claims regarding the alleged videotaping of a Rams practice are determined to be true, Belichick could be suspended for an entire season.
