The story of how these things go down is that, England’s Sir Paul McCartney, once again single, was sitting at home in his castle, wondering what to do on a Saturday night. He somehow knew, and I like to think Paul McCartney knows all,

that former President Bill Clinton turned 64 on August 19th, so he checked his rolodex and called the former President (wow. Paul has Bill Clinton in his rolodex) to sing him "When I'm Sixty-Four" over the phone. Mr. Clinton may have said something like, “Hey man! Why don’t y’all come to my birthday party? We’re serving your favorites, boiled peanuts and sheet cake.”  Paul may have said “sounds jolly good” and agreed to attend.

Mr. Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton threw Bill’s 64th birthday party, at the home of Doug and Lily Band in Water Mill in the Hamptons, and Paul was among the A-listers that attended. After all, southern folk know how to party. On the guest list were the afore-mentioned Sir Paul McCartney, Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Jimmy Buffett, Vera Wang (who created daughter Chelsea’s wedding gown ) and the CEO and Chairman of Goldman Sachs, Lloyd Blankfein. The bash was catered by Jason Weiner of Almond restaurant in Bridgehampton.
