There are a lot of obese, ok let’s just say it, fat young people out there and it is getting the attention of some rather powerful people in Washington.
It looks like they might have the ‘food police’, or something like that in mind, to spearhead a drive to do something about childhood obesity. Never mind Iraq or massive broken borders.
A taskforce was formed last fall by Sam Brownback (R-Kan)
It seems they are working toward having a report ready for Congress sometime in July or August.
Marketers have taken some steps to self-regulate but that doesn’t seem good enough for some of the powers that be in
Washington.
Mainly looking toward
television as the medium
that influences some of the food habits of the young…we would guess that the Federal Communications Commission
could get involved in some way or another.
Some think that the Federal Communications Commission needs to initiate a rulemaking into food marketing in children’s television shows.
If it is all about the children today…will they target us big people next?
Occasionally some of us like a big dish of ice cream with thick chocolate syrup.
I guess we will just have to pull down the shades, dim down the lights and….have at it.
