Denver Nuggets star forward Carmelo Anthony is out on bond after being arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of DUI.
Police Detective Sharon Hahn says "'Melo" was stopped around four a.m. local time on I-25 in Denver. Officers claimed his silver Mercedes was weaving from lane to lane with its high beams on. Once he was pulled over, Anthony reportedly failed several roadside tests. After drawing blood, cops sent Anthony home with a sober friend.
According to a statement from his attorney Dan Recht, Anthony cooperated after being pulled over and gave his consent for a blood test. Recht stressed there was no injury or accident related to the arrest and Anthony regretted the situation.
The results of the blood test aren't expected to be available for two weeks. Anthony is due in court on May 14th. Nuggets vice president of Mark Warkentein said the team was still collecting information and had no further comment at the moment.
Fortunately, the Nuggets don't have to worry about dealing with this, while trying to gain a playoff berth. Denver secured the last spot in the Western Conference playoffs after Golden State lost to Phoenix 122-116 last night.
Anthony is a two-time All-Star and is averaging 25.8 points and 7.4 rebounds on the season. However, he
scored only 11 points in a game that finished a few hours before he was pulled over.
