Missouri town mourned the loss of 26-year-old Special Operator 2nd Class Adam Smith, who was one of three Navy SEALs who were killed in a helicopter crash in
Afghanistan on September 21st. He was laid to rest on Saturday.
Macon remembered Adam as a hometown hero and thousands attended a memorial ceremony and the funeral procession that followed. Adam's funeral service was held at the
First
Baptist
Church, with hundreds of people in attendance.
Thousands of citizens of
Macon came out to pay their last respects, as the funeral procession made its way through the town from the church to his final resting place. Local businesses with message boards on their outdoor signs posted sentiments like “saluting your sacrifice Adam.” Pastor Scott Dalrymple of the
First
Baptist
Church presided over the ceremony in honor of Smith. He said: “Adam Smith now joins a long list of military members who have given their lives so all of us can enjoy the rights and privileges in this country; this is a harsh reminder that the price of freedom comes at a terrible cost.”
